Learn about the history of London transport as you

take a tour round London Transport Museum’s Depot in Acton, west London. 

With a knowledgeable volunteer guide, see highlights from our collection, from historic vehicles, signs

and maps to some unusual and unexpected items. Discover the story of London’s public transport from

its horse-drawn beginnings, taking in rare and unusual vehicles along the way, as well as pioneering

engineering equipment, and a glimpse into our collection of transport signs. 

Topics that may be covered in a Depot Discovery tour may include:

• An introduction to the Depot   

• Historic buses, including horsepower, motor buses such as B Type, and early examples of ‘hybrid’

technology, RT Type and Routemaster 

• Historic trams 

• History of the London Underground, including examples of rolling stock 

• Maps and signage 

As this is a working depot, objects and vehicles can be moved at short notice, so it’s not

guaranteed that all these topics will be covered.

Seating Arrangements

While seats are not pre-allocated, we want to ensure your comfort, especially if you have mobility

concerns. If you are bringing a rolator or have any special seating needs, please inform us in advance

so we can accommodate you appropriately.

For those wishing to secure their seating arrangements, we offer extras such as a Single Seat

Supplement for an extra £10pp, which reserves the seat adjacent to you to provide additional

legroom. You can also reserve Front Seats for an extra charge of just £6 per person.

If you’re travelling with a group and would like to sit together, please let us know, and we will

make every effort to keep your party seated together.
